Amity University is a private university in Noida, Uttar Pradesh that has adopted technology for successfully conducting their examinations remotely and securely during the current COVID 19 situation.

The Challenge: To conduct secure online assessments remotely for open book exams

In the current COVID 19 affected world, social distancing has become the norm. The traditional education environment, which requires students to go to their institute and sit together in close proximity to attend classes and take examinations poses too high a risk factor of contamination and virus propagation. However, even amid the current pandemic, education and assessments cannot come to standstill. Thus, it has become essential for the institute to deliver learning and conduct examination remotely, wherever the students and faculty may be. The client wanted to turn to alternative forms of examinations such as online exams and open book exams to conduct examinations remotely. This comes with its own set of challenges which need to be addressed with technology to ensure a smooth, secure, and hassle-free experience for all.

The Solution: IntelliEXAMS – Online Assessment Platform, BYOD-enabled Question Paper Delivery System, On-screen Marking, Results Processing and Publishing

The client successfully conducted their open book examinations with the innovative use of technology. Question papers were digitally delivered to their students precisely on the exam time of their examinations. The students, who were allowed to use books openly, wrote their responses to the questions on answer scripts. At the end time of the examinations, the students scanned their answer scripts using mobile app and created pdf version of their scripts which were then submitted within the allocated time. These digitized answer scripts were then pushed to the cloud for evaluations.

The digitized answer scripts were evaluated remotely via IntelliEXAMS’s OSM (On-Screen Marking) application. The OSM application allowed the faculty to digitally evaluate the answer scripts directly from the cloud wherever they were and in the platform of their choice (Windows, Android, and iOS). OSM was designed to simulate and bring all the comforts of the traditional manual evaluation, allowing the faculty to mark the answer script with annotations as well as assign marks and feedback to each answer. The application automatically tabulated the marks, performed the necessary validations and marking rules and made the results and the annotated answer scripts digitally available immediately after evaluation.
