A disruptive technology is a technological innovation by which a product or service eventually replaces the existing dominant technology in the market by either filling a role in a new market that the older technology could not do so or by successively moving up-market through performance improvements until finally displacing the market incumbents as seen in the case of digital photography replacing conventional film photography. Steam engines taking over horses, desktop publishing taking over conventional publishing, IP phone taking over conventional phone system, CDs taking over cassette etc are examples of disruptive technology |
